Today, we built on our understanding of Idealism and Realism decision making by applying the concepts to historical American foreign policies and events.
The last foreign policy/event in the activity (Imperialism/Samoa) is an example of America expanding it’s influence throughout the world in Historical Time Period 7. It is also an example of Key Concept 7.3: Global conflict increased American power in the world while sparking debate at home.
Read the initial secondary source to refresh your memory about what foreign policy, idealism, and realism are. Then, complete the graphic organizer using the secondary sources about the corresponding policies/events. Was America motivated by Idealism or Realism when making these decisions?
